FOOTBALL - Earls held by Lane Head as winless run continues

LOUIS Bridges scored a late penalty to rescue a point for Earlswood Town in a 1-1 draw against Lane Head as the Earls saw their winless run extended to 10 matches.

Bridges kept his cool to level from the spot on 89 minutes as Brad Littlehales saw red for the visitors moments later at Somerfield Road.

The result means the Earls sit 10th in the Midland Football League Division Two table.

Lane Head were awarded a penalty of their own just before half time only for Tom Day to make a superb save low down to his right as he held onto Sam Giles’ effort from the spot.

Earlswood improved after the break as Thomas Kinsey’s effort from eight-yards out was blocked by Josh Cufford to keep the game scoreless.

However, Lane Head were awarded a second penalty on 66 minutes as Sam Baxter powered the ball into the net with Day diving the other way.

The visitors were then awarded the third penalty of the game late on as Bridges confidently picked out the bottom left corner to score his 11th goal of the season.

There was still time for more drama as Earls defender Littlehales was sent off following a coming together on the edge of the Earlswood penalty area as the scores remained level.
