Flowers: Leyton Orient defeat cruel on Solihull Moors

BOSS Tim Flowers believed ten-man Solihull Moors did not deserve to be beaten 3-0 by National League title hopefuls Leyton Orient on Tuesday night.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 win at Barrow, thanks to goals from Luke Maxwell and Adi Yussuf, Moors suffered their third defeat of the season three days later to an Orient side yet to lose after nine games.

Charlie Lee opened the scoring for hosts Orient in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time.

Moors were then reduced to ten men after 56 minutes when Jamie Reckford was given his marching orders.

Late goals from Macualey Bonne and Matt Harold inside the final five minutes ensured it was the O’s taking the three points.

“It’s the irony of football. We’d won away from home at Barrow and I wasn’t happy – we weren’t good on the day,” said Flowers.

“Against Orient I thought we were fantastic from start to finish.

“We looked razor-sharp on the counter-attack, we cut through them time and again.

“It’s no secret that their keeper Dean Brill was voted man of the match. He was outstanding, kept them in it time and time again.

“We can’t do any more than hit the target and he was up to the task, but I was so pleased.

“We showed tremendous heart and courage, especially when we went down to ten men.

“Once they scored that second, it’s a mountain to climb then. The lads didn’t deserve to get beaten 3-0.

“I’ve seen so many positives. Ironically, in terms of football, it’s the best we’ve played this season and yet we’ve come away with nothing.”

Moors make the long trip to Dover Athletic on Saturday.
