THERE were some impressive performances from a quintet of Solihull & Small Heath Athletic Club aces when they represented their county at the prestigious English Schools’ Track & Field Championships in Gateshead.

Danel Jansen van Rensburg and Niall Carney, competing in the 400m hurdle races, both won bronze medals in close, exciting finals.

Ashleigh Bailey set a personal best of 5.64m in the long jump in her first year in the intermediate girls’ category and 100m sprinters Martin Williams and Emily Belcher both competed well in their first senior year in the event.

Additional bronze medals were picked up by Danel and Emily in the Warwickshire senior girls’ relay.

Meanwhile, Niall was selected to represent England in the 400m hurdles at the Home International which took place yesterday (Wednesday).
