SPEEDWAY: BIRMINGHAM Brummies boss Graham Drury has acted quickly to replace the injured Danyon Hume by signing talented youngster Liam Carr.

The 21-year-old comes in for Hume who is facing the rest of the season on the sidelines with a badly broken arm.

Carr, who is also riding for Berwick in the SGB Championship, will make his debut for Birmingham in Saturday’s National League fixture at Stoke.

Drury said: “We’re devastated for Danyon but from the team point of view we have to keep going.

“When we knew the extent of his injuries we knew we had to move quickly as it would be hard to replace Danyon’s scores.

“The first rider who instantly came to mind was Liam Carr. I got in touch with him and he instantly jumped at the chance.”

Carr guested for the Brummies in 2016, and says he was impressed by the professionalism of the club.

“Everything about them was great and it’s going to be brilliant to be a part of the club on a more regular basis now,” Carr said.

“If I was going to come back to the National League, Birmingham would always have been the ideal side for me so I’m very happy with the move.

“I want to come in and make an impression at Birmingham.

“With the team they’ve already got, I’m hoping I can come in and help them to some more success.”
