Delves desperate to mount title challenge

Solihull Editorial 14th Jul, 2020   0

SOLIHULL racer Liam Delves is at last set to get his season under way after the first six rounds of the British Superbike Championship had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.

Delves has changed teams for 2020 and is now to ride with Santander Salt TAG Racing to contest the National Superstock 600 Championship onboard a Yamaha YZF-R6.

The soon to be 20-year-old recorded his first victory last season after a thrilling battle at Thruxton, but he now has his sights set on battling for his first British title in 2020 with the Swadlincote-based outfit.

The team has secured a brand-new Yamaha YZF-R6 for Delves and he completed a successful series of tests during the winter months.

Delves said: “I can’t wait to get started as it’s been a long wait for the 2020 season to get under way.

“2019 was my first real year in the Superstock 600 Championship and we’ve come away from it with a victory at Thruxton, so now I have the right package I can keep building and hopefully go for the championship.

“That is my goal and I have all the right tools to do the job.”

The much-anticipated start to the delayed season is preceded by a test day at Donington Park on Friday, July 19 when Delves will have his first ride in the UK on the new bike.

The race dates are: Round one – August 9 – Donington Park (National circuit); Round 2 – August 23 – Snetterton; Round 3 – September 6 – Silverstone; Round 4 – September 20 – Oulton Park; Round 5 – October 4 – Donington Park (GP circuit); Round 6 – October 18 – Brands Hatch.
