SPEEDWAY: NEW signing Liam Carr inspired Birmingham Brummies to a 56-34 victory over King’s Lynn Young Stars with a 15-point maximum on his debut.
The 21-year-old produced a faultless display at Perry Barr as the Surestop Brummies returned to winning ways following Saturday’s defeat at Stoke.
Just two points separated the sides with seven races gone, but Graham Drury’s team kicked on to register six heat advantages out of the final eight to eventually coast to victory.
Carr was untouchable and gained a lot of confidence from stopping the winning run of guest No.1 Luke Priest in heat seven.
He soon settled into his new surroundings and set one of the fastest times of the season of 60.16 in Heat 11.
Carr was supported superbly by in-form teenager Jack Parkinson-Blackburn who dropped just one point to the opposition for a third meeting in succession.
Skipper Darryl Ritchings linked up for four 5-1s as he returned his best score of the season so far.
Tom Bacon recovered well from an incident in heat one, which he feels should have been pulled back, to go unbeaten by an opponent in his next three rides.
Coventry-based youngster Kyle Roberts showed plenty of encouraging signs in the difficult No.2 position while Macauley Leek gained some more invaluable track time in the third tier.
Manager Graham Drury: “We had a few mechanical mishaps early on but credit to King’s Lynn they gave it a good go in the early stages of the meeting.
“But I was always confident we would come on strong as usual in the latter stages of the meeting and so it proved.
“It was important to bounce back tonight by adding three more league points to our total and credit to our lads for another encouraging performance.
“While I applaud the whole team for sticking at it and coming good in the end, I of course have to give a special mention to Liam Carr.
“All eyes were on him on his debut and what a first impression to make.
“He didn’t just win his five rides, he won very comfortably and recorded some very fast times in the process.
“It’s another result which we can build on and now we look forward to going to Plymouth on Friday.”
The Brummies head to Plymouth on Friday before hosting Buxton at Perry Barr next Wednesday (May 17).
