RUGBY LEAGUE: BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees have two home pre-season fixtures to look forward to before kick starting their Midland Premier League campaign in September.

With two away fixtures already under their belt – a win at Rugby Lions and a draw at Dings Crusaders – the Bees will face Sutton Coldfield on Saturday, August 19, before hosting North Luctonians in a floodlit fixture on Friday, August 25.

Both games are free for supporters to attend and will provide Bees’ fans with the opportunity to see how the squad is shaping ahead of this year’s campaign.

Meanwhile off the pitch, supporters of the club – including chairman of rugby Dai Phillips and first team player Ben Phillips – have been raising money for the club by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The team set off on June 21 before stopping off at a number of rugby clubs en route to watch TV coverage of the British Lions test matches against the All Blacks.

They completed the gruelling 1,030 mile challenge in 14 days – 13 of which were spent in the saddle – and raised £3,000 to help fund improvements at the club’s Portway ground.
