WARWICKSHIRE suffered a six-wicket defeat against Yorkshire in the One-Day Cup at Rugby School.

After posting 242-9 from their 50 overs, in which opener Rob Yates scored a fine half-century, the Bears struggled with the ball as Yorkshire reached the required total in the 45th over of their reply in front of more than 1,900 spectators.

Visiting bowler George Hill took six wickets for Yorkshire while Will Luxton scored a terrific century supported by half-centuries from Harry Duke and Matt Revis.

Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bowl first as the Bears made a steady start before Hill (6-28) bowled Ed Barnard (12) in the 10th over.

The Bears only added 10 runs in the next six overs as Hill claimed the wicket of Will Rhodes (15) before trapping Hamza Shaikh (11) LBW to leave the Bears on 73-3.

And Yorkshire’s Dom Bess (1-46) them removed Michael Burgess (10) with Warwickshire four runs short of reaching the 100 mark.

Opener Yates (72) starred with the bat on his way to a fine half-century which included eight fours and a six before falling victim to Revis (2-40).

Useful knocks from Chris Benjamin (38) and Kai Smith (33) kept the Bears ticking along only for Hill to bowl both batters either side of removing Jake Lintott (14).

Late runs from Tazeem Ali (16) and Michael Booth (13) helped Warwickshire close on 242-9 which looked a below par score on a slow wicket.

In reply, Yorkshire made a fast start before Olly Hannon-Dalby (1-37) looked to halt the away side’s momentum with the wicket of opener Yash Vagadia (1).

However, fellow opener Duke (61) scored an excellent half-century which featured 11 fours and one six only for Lintott (2-44) to strike in his first over and remove the former to keep the Bears in the match.

And Ali (1-50) then took the wicket of Finlay Bean (5) before Lintott struck again to remove Jonathan Tattersall (9) with Yorkshire on 117-4.

However, a superb century from Will Luxton (105 not out) which included six fours and six sixes along steered Yorkshire to victory supported by Revis (51 not out) as the visiting pair produced a 129-run fifth-wicket stand.

Warwickshire return to Rugby School to play Nottinghamshire on Wednesday, August 14 with the game to begin at 11am.
