BIRMINGHAM Bears cemented their place at the top of the T20 Blast standings with a dominant nine-wicket win against Notts Outlaws after bowling out the visitors for just 57.

The Outlaws total of 57 was their lowest in the competition’s history and fourth lowest of any county since T20 entered the domestic calendar in 2003.

And the Bears batters needed just 32 balls to secure victory at Trent Bridge as Rob Yates smashed 35 from just 20 deliveries to seal a sixth straight win.

The result means Birmingham top the T20 Blast North Group standings, three points clear of closest challengers Lancashire Lightning.

Seamers George Garton (2-6) and Zak Foulkes (1-6) shared three wickets in the opening powerplay as the former removed Benjamin Martindale (3) and also Ben Slater (0) in consecutive balls.

However, the Bears quintet of spinners shared seven wickets between them as Moeen Ali (2-2), Jake Lintott (2-17), Dan Mousley (1-4), Jacob Bethell (1-10) and Danny Briggs (1-12) all struck.

Only Lyndon James (15) and Jack Haynes (13) reached double figures for Notts with the writing on the wall after the Bears restricted the Outlaws to 16-4 at the end of the powerplay.

The Bears made light work of the reply as Yates, Ed Barnard (12) and Dan Mousley (10 not out) sealed victory in just 5.2 overs.

Birmingham host local rivals Worcestershire Rapids at Edgbaston on Friday, July 12 with the game to begin at 6.30pm.
