A BOROUGH teenage pro-boxing hopeful has received a cash boost to help fund her efforts in the ring after being recognised by a national company.

Elise Glynne first started boxing two years ago after being inspired by Olympic gold medalist Nicola Adams, and she’s now receiving financial backing from Pertemps Network Group.

The company has granted Elise £1,000 as part of its strategy to invest in strong talent and will help fund her travel, equipment and competition entry fees.

The 14-year-old won her first national title in Newcastle when defeating her 16-year-old opponent by technical knockout in the second round at the England Boxing ABA 54kg Junior Championship in Gateshead.

In addition, Elise – who regularly trains six times a week – has also fought for England in an international tournament against Wales in Cardiff, winning her bout against Kelsey Coleman in her under 54kg category.

Elise has now been asked to attend the National Institute for Sport in Sheffield at the end of the month for a four-day training assessment with a view of participating in the European Junior Boxing Championships in Turkey.

Father Peter Glynne – who is involved with Elise’s training – said he’s extremely proud of his daughter’s achievements and hopes the additional funding can help support her future aspirations in the ring.

He added: “We’re all so proud of Elise’s achievements at such a young age, she’s even inspired me and her brothers to become registered boxers.

“The sponsorship will help us with Elise’s training, travel and boxing gear – which isn’t cheap.

“We are truly thankful for the generosity of Pertemps and their continuing help which will have a definite part to play in Elise’s future success.”

Steve West, managing director of Pertemps, said: “Helping Elise is part of our intrinsic family values to support local community and charitable causes.

“We continually endeavor to recognise exceptional talent and we are more than happy to help Elise in her career going forward.”
