BOXING: SOLIHULL international schoolgirl boxer Elise Glynn returns to the ring this weekend with one of her biggest tests of the year so far, as two national champions go face to face at the Riccall Regen Centre, in York.

The 15-year-old is the national junior champion, and this Saturday she takes on 14 year old Jess Williams, from Selby, in Yorkshire, who is the twice national schoolgirl champion. The two have met just once previously, with Elise winning on a split decision.

“This is a rematch by popular demand between two young boxers with fantastic potential,” said Elise’s dad, Peter. “Elise is extremely confident she can win again; indeed, she is one of only two people to have beaten Jess.

“She is full of respect for Jess, and her ability, and knows she’ll have to box at her best if she’s going to come out on top again, but Elise is having a great year, she has started the new season full of confidence, and it should be a fascinating contest.”

Elise, who now has Solihull wet room and bathroom specialists OT Bathrooms as a sponsor, won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Turkey last month. She was beaten narrowly in the semi-finals by the eventual gold medallist Jessica Triebilova of Slovakia – one of only two defeats she has suffered this year.

Peter, Elise’s father, added: “Her ambition is to gain selection for the Olympic Games, in four, or eight, years’ time, and her inspiration when she first took up boxing in 2012 was Nicola Adams, after she won a gold medal for Britain at the London Olympics of that year.”
