Black belt success for Shirley Tae Kwon-Do students

THREE students from Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club are celebrating following their successful black belt grading in Bristol.

Students Mark Nixon and Chirag Jagatia, were successfully promoted to the top grade with Mark Mooney being promoted to 2nd Dan.

All three students train under the guidance of World Champion and International instructor Steve Merricks at his club based at Light Hall School in Shirley.

Merricks has trained in excess of 60 students to black belt level since his club began 18 years ago as well as producing a host of national and world champions over the years.




“We are all extremely proud at the club of our newly promoted black belts,” said Merricks.

“They all worked really hard to achieve this and thoroughly deserve their success.


“Our Tae Kwon – Do Association, the TAGB is the largest in Britain and on this occasion nearly 500 students from all over the country graded over a 3-day period.

“These students really show anyone that If you prepare well, put the time in and work hard, you will get your rewards.

To celebrate his student’s success, Merricks is offering FREE trial lessons throughout September for any new beginners interested in training at his club.
