Berkswell maintain pursuit of leaders

Solihull Editorial 21st Jun, 2017   0

THIRD placed Berkswell maintained the heat on the Birmingham League Premier Division top two with a crushing eight-wicket defeat of lowly Brockhampton on Saturday.

The Meeting House Lane’s fifth victory of the campaign leaves them 12 points behind leaders Shrewsbury ahead of the meeting of the title-chasing sides at the Lane on Saturday (noon).

After winning the toss, Dominic Ostler invited Brockhampton to have first use of a wicket which looked likely to be full of runs, but the visitors never came to terms with the excellent pace bowling of Ryan Sidebottom and Tom Milnes and had been reduced to 11-5 by the ninth over.

Taking a well earned rest, Sidebottom and Milnes were replaced by Alex Hepburn and David Brignull, but there was little let-up to the pressure being applied.

The sixth wicket went down at 42, two more fell at 71, and then two at 94 to wrap up the innings.

Sidebottom finished with figures of 4-14 and Hepburn 3-27.

In reply, Berkswell made short work of reaching their target thanks to an opening partnership of 69 between Mohammed Ahmed (51no) and Mark Best (31).
