AFTER finishing second in the Birmingham League Premier Division, Berkswell are aiming to go one place higher when the 2016 campaign begins.

The already strong 1st XI has been further enhanced by the arrival of former Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Tom Lewis who last played for Berkswell during the 2014 season, while Grant Thornton joins from Leamington.

Also making his Berkswell debut will be wicket keeper Liam Gateley who has move to Berkswell from Olton & West Warwickshire.

Skipper Dominic Ostler said: “It was disappointing not to have won the title last year, but we aren’t looking back and saying ‘if only’, instead we are focussing on the forthcoming season and strongly believe that we do have a realistic chance of winning it this time.”

Berkswell start their season this coming weekend with two home fixtures at Meeting House Lane. On Saturday they take on Walmley in the Graham Williamson Trophy and on Sunday they host to Wolverhampton in the NatWest Club T20 competition.

Chairman Paddy Milnes added: ““We have strength in depth at the club from the Saturday 1st and 2nd XI’s through to our Sunday sides, our junior teams, and our ladies team.  I’m looking forward to the new season immensely as is everybody involved with Berkswell Cricket Club.”
