LONG Distance runner Anthony Dean is determined to keep rolling back the years after finishing as the second fastest runner in the over 65 category at the popular Edinburgh Half Marathon.

The Shirley resident is proving age is just a number by finishing as runner-up in his category and Anthony was just under 100 seconds slower than the eventual winner.

He started running when he was 25 and has not looked back ever since, having taken part in fun runs as well as marathons.

“I gave it absolutely everything,” Anthony told the Observer. “It felt awesome. There were a lot of top class runners taking part so I was delighted to have finished second.”

“I had done well in the Stratford Half Marathon a few weeks before and that was a strong field too.”

Anthony is already looking ahead to his next challenge with both the Donnington and Kenilworth half marathons in his sights.

Asked how he can keep his energy levels so high despite his age, he simply added: “I think it’s because I have time to do it!

“When you’re working it’s difficult to find time but now I’m out five/six days a week running 40/45 miles and I enjoy it.

“I’ll keep running until my legs pack up on me.”
