A NEW youth hub has opened its doors in Mell Square for the summer holidays.
The former Taste Collective and Space@Mell Square units have been transformed into a vibrant youth space for young people aged 13 to 17.
Solihull Council, Mell Square, and five local youth engagement organisations will host a programme of free workshops and activities, including gaming, beauty and enterprise, football, boxing, DJ workshops, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, creative activities, coding and game development.
The project has been developed to address increasing concerns around anti-social behaviour in Solihull town centre.
Alongside the activities, specialist youth workers will carry out targeted outreach work, with the aim of building relationships with young people and encouraging participation in the programme.
The summer programme will be delivered by five local organisations – Strike9T CIC, Ordinary Magic, The Gaia Roots Foundation CIC, Solihull Moors Foundation and Robocode – each bringing their own expertise and activities designed to engage young people and develop their confidence.
Councillor Wazma Qais, cabinet member for Communities, said: “We know that there are concerns about antisocial behaviour in our town centre and the Council is fully committed to addressing this issue. We are already taking action, as this project clearly demonstrates.
“Early intervention and meaningful engagement are key to addressing the root causes of antisocial behaviour, so we are delighted to be working with these fantastic organisations to create new opportunities for young people this summer.”
The youth hub will operate throughout the summer holidays with activities taking place on selected dates until the end of August.
