Many of them picked up their awards from Jacqueline Culliford and Ken Barker from Shirley Lions in a small ceremony that took place on campus.

Students completed a wide range of voluntary activities to earn their awards, from helping at College events to volunteering in the community and some even went on the College’s volunteer trip to The Gambia to help out at a school.

The 11 who accrued more than 100 hours of volunteering were handed the Gold Seal awards.

Others who completed 25 hours of volunteer work were awarded a Bronze award and those who did 50 hours gained t a Silver award.

Jacqueline said: “Members of Lions Clubs believe volunteering both helps others and the volunteer themselves who can gain new skills and get to know new people.

“The Young Leaders in Service award is a way of celebrating the volunteering that young people do and we are very proud of the students who have received these awards today.

“They are already making a difference in the world and we wish them all the best for their future.”

Chris Curran, a student development officers at the College, said: “I’m really proud of our young people for achieving so many hours of volunteer work.
