Young authors come out on top in school Literacy Award

Solihull Editorial 7th Oct, 2024   0

CELEBRATIONS were the order of the day at a Solihull primary school when it was handed a top Literacy Award.

Budding authors at Greswold Primary School have been awarded the Literacy Leadership award after a number of pupils put pen to paper and wrote their first book.

The school’s English lead, Vicky Nock, led the call to pupils to get involved.

The pupils registered with an AI company BriBooks at home in their own time where they could write their own stories and the AI would create books that could be published.

A total of 58 pupils registered to the scheme and 15 pupils had their work published across 16 books.

The pupils won two jury award winner accolades and five top 50 best seller awards.

The school also came top in the Top 20 schools category, which it won the award for.

Vicky, said: “The achievement of the school is very much down to our talented pupils here at Greswold.

“As English lead, I have worked hard to embed a bespoke curriculum which captures children’s imaginations and sparks their enthusiasm for reading and writing, but to see pupils pursuing these interests outside of school and becoming published authors is reflective of the true success of our journey to improving writing at Greswold.”

Headteacher, Mrs Scott, said: “I am very proud of all children who explore their passion for writing at home, as well as at school.

“I am also delighted that so many of our parents and carers support their children to engage with opportunities to be ambitious, including writing.

“A special thank you must go to Miss Nock, Greswold’s English Lead, who encourages the children to explore their talents in writing and reading at home and at school.”
