A YARDLEY man who squared up to police during the summer disorder in Solihull has been jailed.
Adam Turner also hit one of the officers who had been sent to Solihull following reports that a group of masked men were heading to a local mosque from the area of The Greville Arms, on Cornyx Lane, Solihull.
West Midlands Police said the 38-year-old had been drinking at the pub when officers arrived and put a cordon in place to stop the masked men who’d been in the area from travelling to the mosque.
Officers arrived to see a group of up to 40 men outside the pub and drinking. Officers put a cordon in place to stop people heading to the mosque. Most returned inside the pub, but Turner hit one of the officers before throwing a pint glass, which smashed on his leg.
Turner of Waterloo Road was jailed for 16 months at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting affray.
The force’s investigations into the summer disorder seen in the West Midlands and across the country continue, with 26 arrests and 14 people charged in relation to a total of 25 offences.
