A CUPPA and cake helped raise funds to support those affected by cancer across Solihull.

Cancer sufferers, families, friends, work colleagues, and customers all joined forces to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Hair by Sharon Estelle on Hermitage Road, Solihull, welcomed clients and workers to its annual coffee morning.

The hair salon raised £1,114 which will go towards helping people living with cancer in the UK.

Manager Sharon Estelle said she was delighted by so many donations of cakes, and tombola prizes while volunteers made sure everyone had a cuppa and slice of cake.

She added: “This was our fourth year of hosting a coffee morning and we are overwhelmed again. Thank you to everybody who turned up and helped out.”

Celebrations were in full swing at npower’s office in Solihull as employees celebrated the company’s 15-year partnership anniversary with the charity.

Staff sampled a range of bakes – from cupcakes to multi-coloured layered creations – and raised nearly £1,100.

Vicky Barrett, who helped organise the party at the Princes Way site, said: “What a wonderful way to kickstart this week with our Coffee Morning birthday bash, raising nearly £1,100 towards the fundraising total.

“Being part of the charity committee, I can vouch for the fact that the team have worked tirelessly to host such a fantastic event, and it means so much to me especially having experienced the incredible support that Macmillan has provided to loved ones. It’s an amazing charity and I take every opportunity to get involved and help raise as much money as I can.”

Looking back over the years, npower’s community manager Heather Tyrer, said: “Since 2004, our truly impressive employee fundraisers and volunteers have shown massive support for Macmillan by taking part in a range of activities each year including hikes, cycling challenges, rowing events, and the most anticipated event of the year, our lovely Coffee Mornings across all ours sites.

“As we celebrate 15 glorious years together, a massive thanks goes out to all our employees, as the value of the 15 year Macmillan partnership has now hit the £15m milestone. Macmillan means a lot to the people in npower, and the fact that we’ve hit this incredible amount for this fantastic charity this year, is testament to that.”
