A TEENAGER has been crowned the champion of the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath Golf Club in Solihull.

Jake Potter from Kent emerged victorious at golf’s premier event for young players.

The annual competition – now in its 43rd year – gives the chance for top British, Irish and international prospects to showcase their abilities.

The tournament has previously acted as a springboard for British golfing legends Justin Rose and Lee Westwood, careers which Potter will certainly take great inspiration from.

After an intense competition, Potter managed to capture the biggest win of his young career, beating second placed Alex Wells and Jack Peters in third with a score of 208 from three rounds.

Speaking with Growth Consultancy Champions (UK) plc, the 17-year-old winner said: “The organisation of the tournament was great, with huge thanks to the greenkeeping team for their work in such difficult wet conditions.

“It was a tough competition, the weather on the first day was very challenging with wind and rain, and the weather towards the end of the draw was difficult due to my tee time, so I was delighted to shoot 69 (two under par) after Round 1.

“I’m so proud, it’s the biggest win of my career so far.”

Potter’s best moments came in the form of two eagles and a birdie on Hole 7, as well as setting the groundworks for tournament victory with a 336 yard drive from the tee on Hole 8 in round three.
