Westminster Diary - working hard to make this the best community to live, work and raise a family

Solihull Editorial 2nd Aug, 2024   0

I am delighted to have been elected as the member of parliament for Meriden and Solihull East. I will be writing a regular Westminster Diary to keep you updated on all the work I am doing both in Westminster and the community.

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone for the warm reception I received throughout the general election. I am determined to champion our community and ensure that the issues that matter to you are at the forefront of everything I do. I truly believe that this is the best place to live, work and raise a family and I will continue delivering on my priorities to improve our community.

My campaign to restore local Accident and Emergency services is well underway with over 1,500 residents signing my petition and I have already raised it in the new parliament. We need a long-term plan to deal with the health needs of our local community.

In my response to the King’s Speech, I paid tribute to His Majesty and wished him the very best of health on behalf of all my constituents in Meriden and Solihull East. His commitment to public service is a lesson for us all and I was heartened to see him doing so well.

As part of His Majesty’s opposition, I will be playing my part in holding the government to account which is especially important as they overhaul planning laws. This will mean that work to protect our precious greenbelt and environment will be increasingly important. I was pleased to be appointed Shadow Minister of State for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and Shadow Minister in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for primary care and dentistry. As shadow minister for DSIT, I will be ensuring that the government remains focused on delivering jobs and maintaining our global status as a technological leader. As shadow minister for primary care and dentistry, my focus is ensuring we deliver a strong national health service across the country, and I have already got stuck in with the first oral questions of the parliamentary term to the new Health Secretary.

Once again, thank you for your continued support. I will always fight for the issues that are important to you and work to make Meriden and Solihull East the best it can be.

Finally, I hope you and your loved ones have a fun and safe summer and are enjoying the beautiful weather we are having (at the time of writing!)

Please note my office remains open as usual and we are conducting surgery appointments, so do not hesitate to book a slot.
