Visiting the Kingshurst Village Centre regeneration site reminded me why this project has meant so much to me since the day I first became the Conservative candidate for Meriden in 2019. Walking through the area, I could see the transformation taking shape piece by piece, phase by phase and I feel immensely proud of how far we have come but the job is not yet done.
When I first stood with the then Mayor of the West Midlands, Sir Andy Street, our shared mission was clear: Kingshurst deserved a village centre that worked for local families, strengthened community pride and provided the essential services that every thriving neighbourhood needs. Thanks to the hard work of many partners, including Solihull Council, residents and dedicated project teams, the regeneration is now well underway and delivering real results.
The first stage of the project, 25 net-zero social rented homes, has already been completed.
Seeing those homes standing proudly on site felt like a promise delivered, and a powerful symbol of what the future of Kingshurst will look like: sustainable, high-quality and built to meet the needs of local people for generations. These homes set the standard for the rest of the regeneration, which is being delivered in carefully planned phases so we can make the most of available funding opportunities and ensure long-term success.
The next phase of the project is currently in consultation, with the developers listening to feedback from residents. The project is set for a completion date of 2026, and seeing those plans taking shape on the ground gives me confidence that we are on the right path. This project has so far received over £17.1million in funding, with £7.7million having been spent on Phase 1 and £9.425 million on Phase 2, secured by the Council, which I supported.
Once complete, the new village centre will include 78 sustainable homes built to Lifetime Homes standards, designed to support residents through every stage of life. These homes will sit alongside a new vicarage for St Barnabas Church, preserving its important role at the heart of our community.
One of the most exciting features is the new community, health and wellbeing hub, bringing together a GP, pharmacy, dentist, library service and a community café. For families living in Kingshurst, this will mean easier access to vital services, all in one welcoming location.
This project has always been about restoring pride, opportunity and a sense of community. It’s about giving families a village centre where they can shop, learn, socialise, get support and build their futures.
To everyone involved, from council staff to residents who have engaged in consultations, thank you. Your hard work and passion are making Kingshurst a place where families can truly thrive.
I am proud to stand with you as we bring this village centre back to life, stronger and more vibrant than ever.
