THE WEST Midlands has exceeded its housing and investment targets for 2025/26 – according to the region’s Mayor, Richard Parker.
When Mr Parker took office in 2024 funding for the region was at risk due to historic underspend and a lack of delivery.
In response he set out a clear plan to deliver at pace and scale.
That plan has now been delivered.
More than £129million has been committed to build over 7,200 homes across the region – exceeding the targets set by government.
Funding has also been directed to increase the number of homes available for social rent, with further progress already planned this year.
The success means the West Midlands has not only protected vital investment, but now moves into the new financial year with over £100million ready to be deployed and a strong pipeline of projects.
Mr Parker said: “When I became Mayor, we were being told we might lose this funding because it hadn’t been spent. In the two years before I took office, just 93 homes had been funded. Only 46 social homes in the previous eight years.
“We’ve smashed the targets and turned that situation around. That means thousands more homes for local people and millions of pounds staying right here in the West Midlands.
“But more than that, it shows that we can deliver. When we say we’ll get things done, we do. Getting homes built, unlocking investment and making sure opportunities reach the people and places that need them most is vital.
“There’s been a huge effort behind the scenes to make this happen. Teams working late, partners stepping up, and a real sense of urgency to put things right. Now we build on it. We’ve got funding secured, projects ready to go and momentum behind us. This is what progress looks like – and we’re only just getting started.”
