POLICE work to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG) were shortlisted for national awards.
Teams from across West Midlands Police were nominated for the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls and Public Protection (NCVPP) awards for the work carried out to keep women and girls safe, reduce the risk of offences, and ensure those who do commit such crimes are arrested and charged.
The Major Crime Unit, alongside Coventry Local Policing Area staff, were shortlisted within the ‘collaborative working leading to victim-centred approaches’ category.
The teams were finalists at the awards held in London staff were praised for their courage, innovation, and compassion.
West Midlands Police said: “We certainly know the importance of our role in helping women and girls, and our wider communities, to feel safe and we’re here for you. We won’t tolerate any form of violence.
“The aim was to recognise outstanding work across policing, and those we work in partnership with, to showcase excellence in investigating crimes and making sure a victim and their loved ones are at the forefront of everything we do.”
