West Midlands Police preparing for a safe spooky season

Solihull Editorial 28th Oct, 2023   0

THE CHILL in the air, the darker nights, and the scent of pumpkin spice in the breeze can only mean one thing – the autumn season is upon us.

And with it comes the launch of West Midlands Police’s Mischief Fortnight campaign which aims to keep communities safe during the darker nights.

This is a two-week period which often sees an unfortunate uptick in burglaries, anti-social behaviour, fireworks misuse, and nuisance callers.

This year, it began on Sunday and runs through to November 5.

As residents get ready for Halloween and Bonfire Night, the force have some important updates to ensure a safe and secure seasonal period.

Anyone not keen on being spooked by unwanted callers, are being urged to place ‘No trick or treaters’ cards in your windows – which can be downloaded and printed at home from the police’s website.

Halloween is a time for fun and festivities, but it is important for people to remember not everyone wants to take part in this event.

West Midlands Police have given some essential tips to ensure a safe and respectful night for all:

The force suggests those who go trick or treating should make sure they have a trusted adult to accompany them and not to knock on doors where there is a sign asking for ‘No trickl or treaters’.

Children and young people should also be careful not to frighten elderly or vulnerable people, not go trick or treating alone and only visit areas where there are street lights and it is well lit.

Eggs and flour should not be thrown and trick or treaters should be careful when crossing roads.

Anyone in danger should call 999 if they need help. If it is not an emergency, call 101 to report the incident to the police or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and pass information on there.
