West Midlands Police call for calm as terror threat rises

RESIDENTS should be ‘alert not alarmed’ following an increase to the terrorism threat level in the UK, say West Midlands Police.

The country’s threat level was lifted from ‘substainsial’ to ‘severe’ for the first time in more than four ears, following the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London last week.

The change in levels means an attack is highly likely.

West Midlands Police said: “Like forces around the country, we are taking steps to ensure we continue to keep people safe.

“For the public this means remaining alert but not alarmed.

“You may notice an increased presence at key sites around the West Midlands, from a mixture of armed and unarmed officers.”

It added that plain clothes officers will also be patrolling and it will continue to listen to Jewish communities in the region following last week’s attack.

It added: “While there is no specific intelligence or information regarding a threat within the West Midlands, we know that people from all communities and faiths are affected by the uncertainty that national and global events are causing.

“We and our partners in the security services, and policing nationally, continue to work day and night to protect the public against the threat of terrorism.”

Anyone who notices anything suspicious should report it here.

Or in an emergency call 999.
