West Midlands new Lord-Lieutenant appointed by The King

THE NEW Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands has been appointed by The King, to start in August.

DR Derrick Anderson, CBE, DL has been appointed as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the ceremonial county of the West Midlands after the retirement of Sir John Crabtree, OBE on August, 5 this year.

In his new role Dr Anderson will work in the communities of the seven metropolitan districts and boroughs of Birmingham to promote civic, cultural and social schemes.

It is the second largest lieutenancy in the country with a population of nearly 3million.

Dr Anderson said: “It is a great privilege to serve as the King’s representative in the West Midlands and to follow in the footsteps of Sir John Crabtree.

“I am committed to serving both His Majesty the King and supporting the people and organisations of the West Midlands.




“I look forward to working with colleagues and partners throughout the County, promoting our diversity and our unity and celebrating our achievements.”

He added that Sir John has worked tirelessly for the benefit of the West Midlands and his contribution has demonstrated huge positivity fir the county and its citizens.


Dr Anderson holds an honorary doctorate for his work on social inclusion and cultural policy and works with aid and development organisations in Southern Africa and the Caribbean.
