A CHOIR which helps those recovering from mental or physical illness have released a CD with the help of The Big Lottery Fund.

The Wellbeing Community Choir, a not for profit organisation that meets across Solihull and Birmingham, released True Colours after being handed the grant.

The choir selected some of its most popular songs and used professional music producers to record tracks such as Will Young’s Joy, Katrina and the Waves Walking on Sunshine, traditional gospel tracks such as Awesome and the title track True Colours.

Music Director Choir Martin Trotman said: “Being able to record the CD was a real buzz for everyone.

“We wanted to give people a new experience and have something that they can keep and be proud of.

“Though we don’t audition, we pride ourselves on producing high quality performances, and this is proof of just how hard the choir work, whist having fun at the same time”.

The choir have performed at events including the Commonwealth Games hand over last month and the Solihull Together Awards in March.

Choir member Dawn Teague said: “Joining the Wellbeing Choir is one of the best things I have ever done.

“It’s given me so much more confidence and being able to record on the CD was amazing and something I never dreamed of.

“It’s also given me a new purpose and have made so many new like minded friends who all want the same thing, to sing and spread the word. It’s a true privilege to be a part of such a wonderful choir.”
