Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes gearing up ahead of annual Christmas Toy Run

Solihull Editorial 1st Dec, 2021   0

BIKERS are being called on to spread Christmas joy on the Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes annual Christmas Toy Run this weekend.

The annual Toy Run is made up of volunteers on their motorbikes raising money to buy presents for children who will be in hospital over Christmas.

This year’s Toy Run will leave Coventry Building Society on Harry Weston Road in Coventry at 12:45pm on Saturday (December 4) and is open to anyone with a bike for a £5 donation.

Monies donated will be used to buy toys for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital, The Salvation Army, and children in sheltered accommodation.

Phil Evans, a trustee and one of the volunteers, said: “Last year we were overwhelmed by the generosity of donations raising around £4,000 in gifts for 175 children.

“Over 100 volunteers on their bikes delivered thousands of toys to children in several hospitals.

“We look forward to raising another substantial amount to give these children a brighter Christmas and put a smile back on their faces.”

The Toy Run, which has been running for the last nine years, has seen the group raise thousands of pounds for children over the years.

Blood Bikes is a registered charity that transports urgent samples of blood, Covid, human tissue and urgent medical supplies through their volunteers across Warwickshire’s network of hospitals.

Volunteers including riders and drivers offer this service free of charge to the NHS providing a weekday out of hours service and 24/7 weekend and bank holiday cover.
