Walkie-talkies keep the Stride Squad moving

WOMEN taking part in group walks across Solihull can stay safe and connected thanks.

Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council, has donated walkie talkie radios to Solihull Women’s Stride Squad.

The equipment will help members keep in continued contact and improve safety while out on community group walks.

The volunteer-led group has grown to more than 2,400 members since its launch in 2025 which has organised walks for women of all ages across Solihull.

The donation means the group – which has blossomed into one of Solihull’s fastest-growing community groups for women – now has access to essential equipment, allowing walk leaders and buddies to communicate effectively and respond quickly if support is needed.

Keeley Skelding, co-founder of Solihull Women’s Stride Squad, said: “These walkie talkies will make a real difference on our walks, allowing our buddy team to stay in constant contact, support one another and respond quickly if anyone needs help.

“They help us keep our walks safe, well-coordinated, and reassuring, especially as our group continues to grow.

“As a community interest company run entirely by volunteers, we rely heavily on community kindness and support to help us provide essential safety equipment. Support like this is vital in allowing us to continue offering a free, welcoming and supported space for women across Solihull.”

Jacob Harley-Beckett, Everyone Active general manager, said: “We’re proud to support this fantastic volunteer-led women’s walking group and the important role it plays in bringing women together to stay active and connected.

“Safety is key to helping people feel confident when taking part in physical activity and we hope this equipment makes a real difference to the group so that they can enjoy being together while moving together.”

Solihull Women’s Stride Squad aims to support the women of Solihull through connection, compassion, and community.

The group meet every Wednesday evening at 6:45pm at the gates on New Road, where Malvern and Brueton Park meet.
