VOLUNTEERS who give up their time to help others have been thanked for their efforts by the High Sheriff of the West Midlands.

Louise Bennett highlighted the importance of volunteers at the end of National Volunteers Week, from June 1 to 7.

The event is celebrated by organisations large and small to bring the selfless efforts of volunteers into the spotlight.

Louise said the event was particularly significant this year, as volunteers across the region continue to pull together to help lead the region through the pandemic.

She said: “We have seen some exceptional levels of volunteering over the past 14 months.

“Although it has still been a hugely difficult time for all of us the efforts of volunteers everywhere have still helped make a huge difference to other, more vulnerable members of their communities who would struggle even more without such kindness.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to these people who give up their time on a voluntary basis to help and support others.”

Louise highlighted the volunteers who had come forward to help with the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

She added: “A further special thank you to Freya, my Cadet to the High Sheriff, and all of the wonderful volunteers at St John Ambulance.

“And a final thank you to our special constabulary and all those who volunteer to support our judiciary and to keep us safe.”
