Veterans welcome to tour care home

VETERANS, their families and friends are being invited to a Solihull care homes open days.

The Royal Star and Garter is set to open its doors and showcase its outstanding person-centred care on May 17 and 18.

The Monkspath Hall Road home cares for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia and welcomes anyone who has served in the UK Armed Forces, including Reservists and those who completed National Service.

The open days, which run from 11am to 1pn on May 17 and 2pm to 4pm on May 18, are for veterans or partners of veterans, as well as an accompanying relative or friend.

Those attending will have a tour of the home, which will take in nursing and dementia care areas, in-house physiotherapy room and hair salon, garden, activities room and lounges.

A range of activities, including music, physiotherapy and pampering sessions will also be taking place, which visitors are welcome to join or just watch.




The Home was rated among the very best in England in its last Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, after it was judged Outstanding in each of the five areas it was tested in.

Its dementia care was also recognised with a prestigious national award from the Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care.


Shirley Hall, director of care and wellbeing at The Royal Star and Garter, said: “We understand that choosing a care home for yourself or someone you love is a difficult decision and can be daunting.

“I hope those attending the open days will have some worries eased when they see the excellent care we provide.”

Those attending can also get more information on short-term stays, and new services including Day Care, Lunch Club and our free Telephone Friendship Service.
