Royal Star & Garter in Solihull has been shortlisted in the Nursing Times Awards, in recognition of the outstanding care it provides.

The Home was announced as one of 12 finalists in the Care of Older People category in the prestigious awards at the end of August.

It follows a number of accolades for the Tudor Coppice Home, culminating in March when it was rated Outstanding across all five tested areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), placing it among the best nursing homes in the country.

The Home was also praised in 2018 for its Day Care service by the then Care Minister Caroline Dinenage, and in December 2019 it received recognition in the Markel Third Sector Awards for its exceptional specialist dementia care.

Royal Star & Garter provides loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

Home Manager Cheryl Harbourne said: “I’m delighted that we have been shortlisted. Every member of the team plays their part in providing outstanding care and support to our residents, and I am extremely proud that the Home has been recognised in this way.”

Royal Star & Garter’s Director of Care Pauline Shaw added: “Every member of the team is involved in providing outstanding care and support to our residents, and I am extremely proud that the Home has been recognised in this way.”

Earlier this year, Connie Chingwaru, Lead Nurse at Royal Star & Garter in Surbiton, was shortlisted in the Student Nursing Times Awards in the Practice Supervisor of the Year category, in recognition of the help and support she provides students on placements at the Home.

The Nursing Times Awards recognises those making nursing an innovative, patient-focused and inclusive profession. The awards ceremony will take place on 14 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The Student Nursing Times Award will take place on 17 November at the same venue.

The charity has Homes in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe. All the Homes are once again accepting new residents. Visit www.starandgarter.org to find out more.
