A 100-MILE closed route bike ride is to return to the region for a third time, organisers have announced.
The next Vélo Birmingham and Midlands, which attracts thousands of cyclists, will be held on June 28, 2020.
The event, which has been criticised for widespread road closures, will again take riders on a route through Solihull, Coventry, Warwickshire and Birmingham.
Organisers say the Vélo is a “huge success” and course information will be released in the coming months.
This year, 17,000 people participated, with one man dying after coming off his bike in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Organisers hope residents will once again line the streets and cheer on the cyclists in their thousands as local pubs and community halls host street parties and barbecues on the big day.
This year’s event raised over £1million for local and national charities.
It is hoped next year’s event will work closely with the four charity partners – Cure Leukaemia, Alzheimer’s Society, NSPCC and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.
Richard Relton, chief executive of the Vélo Series, said: “We are delighted to have secured a brand new, summertime date for the third edition of Vélo Birmingham and Midlands.
“The 2019 event was a huge success and we’re looking forward to returning in exactly one year’s time with an even bigger and more inclusive event.
“Vélo Birmingham & Midlands is now one of the Midlands’ biggest annual sporting events and we’re committed to growing and improving it year on year, not only for the participants but also for the region as a whole.”
