Unauthorised encampment ordered to leave Babbs Mill Park

Solihull Editorial 5th Jun, 2018   0

THE ONGOING problem of travellers setting up camp illegally in the borough continued as they descended on Babbs Mills Park.

The unauthorised encampment was set up at around 6pm on Sunday (June 3) – with their caravans.

A notice has been handed to the group ordering them to leave the Kingshurst site by 11am on Wednesday (June 6).

If they fail to leave the site by this time, the formal eviction process will begin

A Solihull Council spokesperson said: “The Council is working closely with the police and undertaking the necessary legal actions to move them on as quickly as possible.

“To support the evidence gathering it is very important that local residents report any anti-social or criminal behaviour to the police by calling 101.

“This helps build a picture of the situation for the court to consider when a case is presented to them.”

Previously a group set up camp in Babbs Mill Park in March and they were unable to move on as the water logged ground conditions are made it impossible for them to leave the site despite being issued an eviction notice by the Council.

The spokesperson added: “When any unauthorised encampment leaves a site the Council undertakes a thorough clean up and also assesses how the site can be secured to help prevent any future incursions.”
