AFTER taking two million steps across hundreds of miles in 52 days a Solihull adventurer crossed the finishing line in his toughest challenge yet.
Connor Bennett hiked from John o’ Groats to Land’s End in aid of Birmingham Mind.
The 23-year-old set off on July 17 and in a bid to raise awareness of mental health.
Connor says he really struggled with anxiety when he was younger but is good place with it now and is conscious of keeping it at bay.
Speaking of his hike Connor said: “It’s been a proper adventure
“Solo hiking just over a thousand miles across the UK.
“Dealing with the Scottish ticks, trying to be safe on roads with no path, being chased by a bull and I even fell in a Canal at one point, but I wouldn’t change a thing, lots of memories to look back and laugh at.”
He initially set out to raise £500 for the mental health charity – but even before he’d got out of Scotland he’d smashed that target and was looking to quadruple it.
His friends, colleagues and customers at Morrisons in Sheldon gave Connor a boost when they ran a tombola and raised around £275.
Connor said: “We’ve raised just over £3,000 which is just mad, those donations gave me the determination to push on tough days.
“Mental Health will always be a tricky thing but always remember our greatest superpower is that we don’t live forever it’s a short ride so just enjoy it.”
