TWO people have been arrested following a hit-and-run in Sheldon which left a man in a critical condition and needing to have part of his leg amputated.

Police have issued several appeals since Monday September 18 when Chris Hood, aged 26, was struck when crossing Brays Road at around 10.10pm.

On Saturday (September 30), officers from West Midlands Poice’s collision investigation unit executed two search warrants and arrested two people.

Mr Hood was struck by a vehicle, believed to be a Vauxhall Astra, which made off from the scene.

He suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital, police say.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the court of justice.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the court of justice.

Both have been released pending further investigation.

Detective sergeant Paul Hughes said: “Whilst the investigation is far from complete theses searches and arrests represent a significant step forward.

“We’ve also recovered a burnt-out vehicle which is of interest to the enquiry. I would encourage anyone who has any information relating to this incident to get in touch with me or my team.

“This is one of a number of recent serious non-stop collisions within the West Midlands which I know may cause concern to the public.

“I would like to reassure you that we take every step possible to trace offenders. We treat these matters with the utmost seriousness.”
