Tudor Grange swimming pools to reopen next month with free fun day

THE SWIMMING pools at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre are reopening next month after maintenance works saw their sudden closure.

The improved pools will be open on Monday, March 11 following the completion of what Solihull Council chiefs branded essential maintenance works.

They say the works were carried out to protect the long-term future of the facility.

To celebrate, leisure centre operator Everyone Active and Solihull Council are hosting a free family fun day on Saturday, March 16 from 12pm to 5pm.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for tourism, leisure and sport Councillor Joe Tildesley said: “We’ve used the shutdown to make some other improvements which visitors will benefit from.

“Local residents and regular visitors have been extremely patient so I would urge them to accept our invitation to the free fun day – it’s our way of saying thank you.”

The event is open to the whole community and will give visitors the opportunity to partake in free family fun swim sessions and inflatable parties.

Swimmers can also enjoy the improved pool-side changing rooms, which include renovated showers, toilets and vanity areas, as well as updated lockers and cubicles.

A host of other free activities will be available on the day, including tennis sessions, virtual group exercise classes and fitness challenges.

Children will also be kept entertained with bouncy castles and games in the sports hall.

Everyone Active’s contract manager Wayne Desmond said: “This was the first major maintenance project to be carried out to the pools since they opened in 2007, and was essential to ensure they continue to cater for the community into the future.

“The open day gives us the opportunity to thank local people for their patience and support while the project has been ongoing. “They can come and enjoy our brilliant facilities free of charge and see everything the centre has to offer.”

The pools temporarily closed in November to allow for ongoing issues with the poolside tiling to be resolved.
