HEARTFELT tributes have been left in Yardley after a 12-year-old cyclist died.

The boy, who has been named locally as Azaan, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was involved in a crash on Coventry Road at the junction with Berkeley Road shortly after 6.15pm on June 8.

West Midlands Police have yet to name the boy but have said officers are supporting his family.

The roadside was covered in flowers and messages in memory of the cyclist.

A message from Alicia, Charlotte and Kaiynat read: “To our precious angel, sleep well. Always in our hearts.”

Another read: “Rest in peace little man.

“It breaks our hearts that you were taken so soon. Your memory will never leave us. Condolences to the family from all at Arifs and Sons.”

A 32-year-old who was arrested has now been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said: “We are appealing for witnesses and in particular for people with dash cam footage to please contact us.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy and we are doing all we can to support them at this very difficult time.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a male pedestrian involved in a separate collision with a car near to the scene was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained minor injuries.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, online via the live chat on the police website or email detectives at [email protected] and quote log number 4226 of May 8.
