Trees planted at Damson Park

DAMSON Park is set to be that bit prettier in the spring thanks to Birmingham Airport and Jaguar Land Rover.

Friends of Damson Parks was handed a grant form the airport to fund some semi-mature trees for the park and thanks to JLR, who organised a working party to plant them, the group were able to put the trees in the ground ready for the spring.

The group has been running for four years and its aim is to install footpath all the way around the perimeter to encourage more people into the park and to give the community a sense of pride in their park.

So far the path stretches round half of the park and funding has been secured for another quarter.

Sue Hughes, secretary for Friends of Damson Parks, said there was no footpath when the group started and the park was a recreation ground and it was quite difficult for all to get round especially when the weather was bad.

She added: “We started raising money to make improvements in the park and to get a footpath going round it so everybody can enjoy it in all weathers.

“I think it’s great people are walking round the park and are saying hello to people they don’t know – over time walkers get to know each other and a community spirit is being built up.”
