SOLIHULL shoppers had to look twice at Touchwood Shopping Centre yesterday (December 1) as a giant gingerbread house was revealed to the public.
With Christmas just around the corner, the Touchwood elves have been busy at work to complete the festive spectacle – which stands at nine feet tall and eight feet wide.
Talented food artist Prudence Staite – and her team of culinary wizards – planned, designed and constucted Touchwood’s fairytale feast over five mouth-watering months.
The ode to Hansel and Gretel includes a mound of home-baked gingerbread bricks, more than a ton of royal icing, candy cane decorations and takes centre stage in The Atrium.
To add to the gingerbread house, youngsters will be able to share a festive hug with The Snowman this Saturday (December 5) and can receive their own gingerbread man to enjoy the following week (December 12).
Residents could celebrate the festive season even further as Touchwood is inviting guests to send in photos of themselves with their gingerbread men by using the #GingerSnaps – the winner will receive a £50 Touchwood gift card.
Lucy Burnett, marketing manager for Touchwood, said: “Our giant gingerbread house is truly a spectacle to be seen.
“We are certain it will set the scene for extra special seasonal shopping trips for our guests.
“Christmas at Touchwood is going to be truly magical this year and we encourage local families not to miss out on this super sweet treat and the chance to take part in our #GingerSnaps competition.”
