SHAKESPEARE’S Schoolroom is top of the class when it comes to restoration.

The historic Tudor building has been shortlisted for best small commercial project and best educational building in the West Midlands LABC Building Excellence Awards, and best conservation project in the Stratford Building Excellence Awards.

The £1.8million project was managed by King Edward VI School Trust and Heritage Lottery Fund.

Chairman of trustees Tony Bird said: “The aim was always to maintain the authenticity and atmosphere of this remarkable building.

“The challenges of restoring it were met with expert craftsmanship and quality authentic materials, and we are delighted to see the results acknowledged in both of these prestigious awards.”

Winners will be announced over the next month.
