Top marks for Solihull’s parks

SOLIHULL has retained all 16 Green Flag Awards for its parks, cemeteries and green spaces.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, Coun Ken Hawkins, said: “I am delighted that we have retained all 16 Green Flag Awards in Solihull and would like to congratulate both the council staff and our army of local volunteers who have worked so hard to make this possible.

“Our parks and green spaces play an important role in providing places for our residents and visitors to relax, exercise and enjoy the natural environment.

“Through projects like Wildlife Ways we have given our open spaces a boost with tree and wildflower planting along with river and stream improvements, supporting local wildlife, improving air quality and making our parks even more beautiful.

“With the summer holidays nearly upon us, I know they will be enjoyed by families across the borough so a big thank you to everyone who has helped to make our parks and green spaces such fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd MBE added: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving 16 Green Flag Awards in Solihull.

“These are vital green spaces for the community in Solihull, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles.

“The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure the high standards of the Green Flag Award are maintained and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”
