TINY tots with a love of books have been preparing to celebrate their favourite story book characters.

Youngsters will be enjoying story, rhyme and dress-up time at Tiny Teddies Day Nurseries today.

Children will be dressing up as characters from their favourite stories for the 19th year of the event which has been designed to encourage children and families to discover the joy of books and reading.

Each site has planned different activities to help celebrate the biggest celebration of its kind which is marked in more than 100 countries all over the world.

There will be lots of fancy dress as favourite book characters. As well as lots of story related fun and games including bear hunts, indoors and outdoors, and lots of treats from stories such foods from The Gingerbread Man, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the Little Red Hen.

The children will also be making their own stories and bringing in favourite books.

And, there will even be a visit from a special guest from a famous Disney classic.

Margaret Prentice, nursery manager, said at all Tiny Teddies Day Nurseries they celebrate World Book Day every year and the children all have favourite stories.

“They are a great tool to help develop creativity and imagination and increase confidence.

“The children have books as part of their daily routine in all rooms, and the activities that have been planned show just how much fun books can be.”
