Thrilled Solihull care home residents toast launch of new on-site pub with a 'Cheers' and cold lager

A SOLIHULL care home celebrates National Drink Beer Day with the opening of its very own on-site tavern.

Residents at Ardenlea Grove Bupa Care Home in Solihull so much enjoyed reminiscing on times spent in their old locals the care home team decided to recreate the pub experience with the help of local boozer, The Lyndon, which supplied beer pumps, bar stools and mats.

Now residents can enjoy their favourite tipple in The Emerald Inn.

Resident Chris Hutchins, said: “It was nice to enjoy a good pint! I used to work at The Sheldon and The Marston Green Tavern in Birmingham, so it was great to be behind the bar again.”

Kelly Holder, Home Manager at Ardenlea Grove, said: “It’s been amazing to see residents laughing together and enjoying The Emerald Inn.

“Residents are always telling us how they used to love a drink down at the local pub, so we’re thrilled to have been able to bring the pub to them. We’re always looking at ways to keep spirits high and the new pub has been a great success.

“I’d also like to thank Katharine Hickcox from The Lyndon Pub in Solihull, who has helped us bring all of this to life and for kindly donating bottles and mats, to help make The Emerald Inn look like an authentic pub.”

To celebrate National Drink Beer Day on September 28, residents joined together to say ‘Cheers’ with a cold lager and raise a toast to their new haunt, followed by an afternoon of playing dominos and cards.

Located on the home’s dementia floor, the pub provides plenty of sensory stimulation for those living with dementia, as well as a place for all residents to retreat and enjoy. It even has its own juke-box.
