Three arrested in weapons and drugs investigation at Birmingham Airport

A MAN arrested as he arrived at Birmingham Airport has been charged with possessing a firearm.

Thomas Kavanagh, 51, from Tamworth, Staffordshire, was detained on Saturday (January 12) as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

He will appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates court today (January 14).

A 20-year old man, who was arrested alongside Kavanagh at Birmingham Airport, has been released under investigation.




A third man, aged 19, was also arrested and released under investigation.

The NCA was assisted by Staffordshire Police and the Republic of Ireland police force during the operation, which was investigating the supply of drugs and firearms in Ireland and the UK.
