Thousands of train users to face delays between Birmingham and Coventry following power failure

Solihull Editorial 5th Apr, 2016 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016   0

THOUSANDS of workers faced severe delays in getting to work this morning after an overhead power failure caused the line between Coventry and Birmingham International to be temporarily shut down.

Trains were forced to terminate at Birmingham New Street and Coventry – though some services were redirected through Solihull.

London Midland, Virgin and Cross Country Services were amongst those worse affected.

Francis Thomas, London Midland spokesman, told The Observer: “Overhead wires were down at Birmingham International just after 6am and consequently the line between Coventry and Birmingham has been blocked.

“We’re expecting disruption until late afternoon, though we’d like to remind our passengers that should their service be delayed by more than half an hour they can claim compensation through our booking office, website or app.”
