Thousands raised to help bring former Arden Academy home from Peru

A FORMER Arden Academy pupil who travelled to Peru in search of adventure has been left living on the streets.

Hannah Almond has been left stranded and living under a bridge after she was allegedly robbbed and loved ones are desperate to raise funds and help bring her home.

It is understood the former Knowle resident lost her phone, passport and was left penniless after she was attacked in the city of Cusco.

It has been reported she went to the South American country in March for a dream yoga retreat.

Loved ones have set up a Go Fund Me page in a bid to raise £9,000 to bring her safely back to Grimsby in Lincolnshire where she lives now.

Sophie Wallace, who set up the fundraising page, wrote: “She is now in the midst of a mental health crisis, living under a bridge with a homeless man she befriended — the only person she currently trusts.

“Despite attempts to help her through official channels, Hannah is deeply fearful and unable to accept support from the embassy or local authorities.

“She is extremely vulnerable, isolated, and not safe living on the streets of Peru.”

The page raised more than £8,000 in three days.

Writing on the page Sophie said the funds will be used to pay for the flight and accommodation for a loved one to fly to Peru in a bid to try to ‘gently and lovingly persuade’ Hannah to come home.

The money will also pay for accommodation and food, emergency medical or psychological care, which may be necessary before she is well enough to travel and any travel and logistical costs required to bring her home safely including passport and visa .

The page says any extra donations will be given to a mental health charity.

Sophie said: “Hannah is a deeply kind and gentle soul, and we are desperate to get her the care and safety she deserves.

“Please, if you can spare anything at all, your donation could make all the difference.”

The current Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advice warns a number of British tourists have been targeted by armed robbers in recent years.

It added: “Personal attacks, including sexual assaults, are infrequent but do happen, mostly in the Cusco and Arequipa areas.”
