THE CHRISTMAS season got underway with a service to honour veterans at a Solihull care home.
The annual Starlight service at the Royal Star and Garter Care Home, which celebrates the lives of residents past and present, was broadcast for residents and loved ones to watch.
The service featured residents, including those at the Monkspath Hall Road care home, remembering Christmases past with piano music and school children singing O Holy Night.
It also featured a poetry recital from staff who look after veterans and their spouses with dementia or disability at the home.
As is tradition with Starlight, viewers have the opportunity to hang a star on their Christmas trees in tribute to a loved one.
The service also includes a poignant tribute to the charity’s former Patron Queen Elizabeth.
